Fall ’23 One Room Challenge | Week 1

Join me as a guest participant of the Fall 2023 One Room Challenge. I chose to focus on finishing AJ’s bedroom refresh. AJ is 8 and loves Pokemon, Minecraft, dogs, video games, and traveling. His favorite color is green so I am refreshing the green paint in his room. This summer, we went to a couple of National Parks and we bought posters that I plan on incorporating into the design.

The Before

The first images were taken from our first night in our house. The very first before has parquet flooring, which we would’ve kept if it was in good condition but it wasn’t so my very pregnant and very decision fatigued self just wanted the cheapest easiest option…enter carpet. When we first remodeled, the bedroom became a nursery then moved to a toddler room then a kid’s room. I never really finished the kid room completely. I painted, added a loft bed, and some random art. It was the pandemic and shopping was hard.

The Plan

The biggest undertaking of this project is to create built-in shelving. The window wall will have floor-to-ceiling shelving with a window seat in the middle that can open for closed storage. I will be painting the shelves a light blue/green color and the walls green. The walls are currently green and technically the same color as “before” but I had the color matched years ago and I don’t think it was very accurate. The shelving will be styled with easy access to AJ’s books, toys, and art supplies.

As far as the rest of the room, I hung a new light fixture last year with the intention of finishing AJ’s room. We have the two Nugget Couches that are pictured so I plan on incorporating those. I will add links and go into better detail as the weeks progress so come back each week to follow the progress.
